Machen Sie Ihr E-Bike fit für den Frühling! - HildRadwelt

Stuttgart/Reutlingen - Before the start of the new season, the eBike should be comprehensively checked; in the case of safety-relevant parts, this is best done directly by the dealer. The Bosch eBike Expert dealer Markus Unger Bikes gives tips for the perfect spring check:

1. Brakes
Especially with eBikes, it is important to bring the bike in for service regularly - at least once a year. Because it is more complex than a normal bike. Before the first ride in the spring, it is important with the mostly hydraulic brakes to test at the brake levers whether there is still a pressure point. In addition, the brake discs should be checked for possible discoloration. Of course, specialist dealers also check the wear of the brake pads in their workshops, replace them if necessary and fill or bleed the brake system if necessary. In the case of rim brakes, it is usually easy to see whether the brake pads are still serving their purpose.

2. Chain and sprockets
A special gauge is used in the workshop to check the wear of the chain and sprockets. This depends on how the chain and sprocket of the eBike are maintained. High-quality chain greases are best suited and should be applied at least once a month. By the way, discarded toothbrushes or dishwashing brushes are also suitable for cleaning chains.

3. Tires
The tire pressure has a great influence on the battery range of the eBike. A tire loses about one bar of air pressure per month, so you should check it regularly. Of course, especially after a long winter break. On the sidewall of the tires, the manufacturers list the minimum and maximum pressure of the respective model. Important: A "thumb test" is not sufficient. A pump with a pressure gauge or special pressure gauges are recommended. You should also take this opportunity to check whether the tires are already brittle or cracked and have sufficient tread.

4. Battery
At the start of the season, it is also worth checking the battery capacity. Especially after a longer standstill. The Bosch eBike Experts have a special test device with which they can check the performance of the battery. Charging the battery should be done in a dry environment and at room temperature. For cold spring days, it may be worthwhile to purchase a neoprene protector for the battery.

5. System and software
During the system check of the eBike, specialist dealers can use the Bosch diagnostic tool to determine whether the on-board computer, battery and motor are in order. This also includes checking whether the system software is up to date or whether a software update is necessary.

6. Care and safety
Ideally, the eBike was already cleaned before it was put into storage. However, if it is still dirty, it should be cleaned with a suitable care product. Make sure that the contacts on the battery and display remain dry.
It is also advisable to check whether the suspension elements are adjusted to the intended use and total weight and whether all screws are tight - especially on the saddle, stem and handlebars. During an inspection, by the way, the specialist dealer also detects other defects or deficiencies. And that avoids possible consequential damage.
